Watch face cannot load
If the preparing or restoring screen persists, or recovery steps appear:
- Select a built-in Garmin watch face.
- Enter and exit always-on display (AOD). On Forerunner 970, use the LIGHT button.
- Switch back to Burnished Sky Ahead.
If the problem remains, include the device model, firmware, and watch-face version in your report below.
Weather looks stale
- Open Garmin’s Weather app and confirm its current data.
- Sync Garmin Connect and allow Garmin’s cached weather time to refresh.
- Confirm the watch face has its requested permissions.
- Restart the watch if settings or cached data remain stale.
The watch face shows the current condition caption directly. It does not reveal coordinates or rotate through a provider/location label.
Read the lower-left forecast
- The three small labels are local clock hours, not “hours from now.”
- Each value belongs to the forecast node beside it.
- RAIN, SNOW, and MIX show precipitation chance; TEMP shows forecast temperature.
- The icon identifies the selected forecast mode. Missing data remains

Status rail
On supported devices, compact icons beside the time show alarm and Do Not Disturb state when Garmin reports them. Connect IQ does not expose the next alarm time, repeat rule, weekday, or Smart Wake state, so the watch face does not guess them. Status indicators stay hidden in AOD.
Show notification count is Off by default. When enabled, the rail shows Garmin's on-device notification count, capped at 99+. It does not read message contents, sender names, or notification text.
Settings
- AOD ornament: Three-rail, Victory Laurel, Quoted Time, None, or Daily Rotation.
- Weather frame: Faceted Seal, Simple Circle, or None.
- Outdoor Brief: Off, Always on, Toggle by long press, or Smart on supported AMOLED watches.
- Weather Signals: Off or On on supported AMOLED watches.
- Show notification count: Off or On; Off by default.
Report a problem
Include the device model, firmware, Burnished Sky Ahead version, expected behavior, visible fallback text, and whether it occurs in active mode, AOD, or both.
Keep public reports private-safe. Do not post precise coordinates, account data, payment details, or private Garmin logs.
